On Monday December 12, 2016, two local legends and community benefactors were celebrated. For several decades, Charles and Naomi Smith ran a business in Southbridge that was more than a cleaners, but a part of the family of many Wilmingtonians. The Smiths were noted for their civic leadership, generous hearts, and community and church involvement. As host for one of the longest running leased access cable television programs, Mr. Smith became even more of a community helper and a household name.
Charles Smith died tragically following a car accident. His wife Naomi, died a year prior to his death. Their value to the Southbridge and Wilmington community was memorialized on December 12th, when the street adjacent to their business was posthumously renamed after them. The Smith Family, Wilmington City Council and Mayor Dennis P. Williams were in attendance.
