The TEDx Wilmington Salon, Swipe Left: Love, Dating and Situationships will explore the intricate complexities of love and dating and how shifting cultural norms, technology, and trends like ‘cuffing’ and Netflix & Chill are impacting the way we date, the types of situationships we enter into, and our expectations about love and relationships.

TEDx Salon Speakers:

@YvonneOrji – The Wait is Sexy. Nigerian-American actress, Yvonne Orji is a comedienne and writer who continues to display her versatility and passion with each project she takes on. On television, she stars in HBO’s new comedy series “Insecure”. The show follows the friendship of two modern-day black women and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations. Orji stars as one of these women opposite Issa Rae, who is executive producing the show along with Prentice Penny and Melina Matsoukas. She is also developing a half-hour sitcom, based on her life entitled “First Gen”, with executive producers Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo.

@RaniStPucchi – What a Soul Mate Is, and Isn’t. Rani St. Pucchi is an internationally known, award-winning, bridal fashion designer. She is the author of two bestsellers: Your Body, Your Style and The SoulMate Checklist. Renowned for her savvy regarding women’s challenges in relationship to self and others, Rani shares her knowledge of more than three decades as she points out: “Women are experts at planning a wedding but clueless about planning a marriage”. She walks women through their journey of finding soul mate love by first gaining clarity on the true meaning of what a soul mate is, and isn’t.

@Kev_Carr – Dating is Dead. As an accomplished author, speaker and TV Host/Personality, Kevin Carr offers a practical road-map to navigate being single while learning to create the relationship you desire. Kevin delivers a message that provides direction and promotes honest dialogue. His unique perspective and engaging delivery have made him a sought after speaker across the country including appearances on ABC, BET, CBS, FOX and TBN. As a contributor, his work has been featured in Essence,, and The Huffington Post. In his first book, “If All Men Are Dogs, Then Women You Hold the Leash,” he shows women how to tap into their personal power to control the pace and direction of their relationships.

@DrDebraLaino – Dissecting Love: Distance, Disguise, and Dharma. Dr. Debra Laino is a clinical sex therapist, sex educator, relationship therapist, author and life coach. She holds a Doctorate in Human Sexuality, a Master’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education. She is in private practice, a University professor, published author and a major media contributor.

Illstyle Peace & Productions Hip Hop Dance @ The Freeman Stage at Bayside

Illstyle & Peace Productions is a multicultural dance company based in Philadelphia and founded in 2002 by Brandon “Peace” Albright and Forrest “Getemgump” Webb. They create work rooted in contemporary and old school hip-hop. Working from an eclectic mix of dance and performance disciplines including tap, ballet, house dancing, DJing, and beatboxing, Illstyle & Peace Productions create a unique new style of hip-hop. Illstyle has toured to critical acclaim both nationally and internationally and is committed to delivering a positive message to audiences young and old. The company’s work celebrates the art of hip-hop by adding an urban style to traditional moves in order to create a new step. This event will feature a post- performance discussion with the artists.

This performance is free for all to attend. Please BYOC- Bring Your Own Chair. Children age 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Register for tickets AND attend the event to be entered into a drawing for a pair of tickets to a future performance!
