Community leader Jeffrey T. Benson, Jr is running for a seat on the district’s operating board. Benson a graduate from Seaford Senior High School, Class of 2002 is looking to embark on the journey to help bring back the pride the school district once embodied.
“Public education is successful when schools, parents and the community all work together” Benson said. “I plan to use my public influence to engage our community as a whole.”
Benson graduated from Delaware Technical & Community College in 2011 with an associate’s degree in Marketing and Management. He is a current a student at Wilmington University and a current Leadership Delaware Fellow, Class of 2013. Jeff currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club (Georgetown Unit), Chairman of the Board for Sussex County Action Prevention Coalition, is a member of the Georgetown Economic Development Council, Health Ambassador with La Red Health Center and is an active body within his local community.
Benson a father of one says that he would like to tie the three influences (City of Seaford, Greater Seaford Chamber of Commerce and the local Churches) together that make the school district thrive. “It’s going to take a community effort to reestablish the Pride of Excellence Seaford School District once embodied when I graduated.”
Benson believes that his background with building community coalitions would make him a valued member of the school board. “I have a pretty good pulse on how the school district operates and look forward to enhancing the works of the current board members efforts,” he said.
