On the birthday of slain civil rights leader the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, many gathered joining black church leaders (visibly present were Rev. Lawrence Michael Livingston, Dr. Donald Morton and Bishop Aretha Morton) that were joining forces with the Occupy Wall Street movement. Peter Spencer Plaza was the location of the Occupy The Dream rally.

Per the OccupyTheDream.org website:

Members of the African-American faith community have joined forces with Occupy Wall Street to launch a new campaign for economic justice inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Faithful to its philosophical origin, the "Occupy the Dream" coalition has called for a National Day of Action on Martin Luther King Day – Monday, January 16, 2012 – to focus attention on the gross injustice visited upon the 99% by the financial elite.

Occupy The Dream nationally has three main demands:
1. A moratorium on all foreclosures
2. Strengthening of the Pell Grant Program
3. Wall Street to assist in developing Urban Communities
Locally, an additional demand is that people move their money from corporate banks and open accounts in small and community based banks and credit unions.
