Bliss Elements Salon & Spa Will Hold A Toy And Clothing Drive To Help The Two Children Rescued in Wilmington Fire and Their Family

Saturday night, Bliss Elements Salon & Spa hosted a consignment sale fundraiser with the intention of using the money to help a family in need this Christmas, not realizing that the day before a family would be devastated by a fire that critically injured two children and displaced the entire family.   Upon learning of the fire and the injuries, Co-Owner Sherell Flagg and Salon Operations Director Sonji Hubbard sprung into action to help.

Unable to find any information about the condition of the children and whereabouts of the family from any news source, they began digging around on their own.  It turned out that a former player on one of Sonji’s husband’s football teams was a relative of the children.  He provided the contact information for the family and Sonji connected with the father.  He informed her that the 3-year old girl Saniya is in critical but stable condition at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital and 1-year old William is in critical condition with severe lung damage at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Sherell immediately went to A.I. to reach out to the family directly.

During the visit, Sherell learned that the family was living with the mother and her four children were living with the grandmother.  It was the grandmother’s home that caught fire.  They lost everything and are displaced.  Needless to say, Sherell immediately decided that this would be the family the Salon would support from the money raised during the consignment sale.  She also discovered that the family has a need for the clothing items that were not sold.  Furthermore, Sonji and Sherell decided they would host a toy and clothing drive to help the family this Christmas.

Starting Tuesday, December 13th, Bliss Elements Salon & Spa will collect new unwrapped toys and new and gently used clothing for the family.  The following is a list of the ages and sizes of the family:  1 year old William wears 18-24 month clothing and size 6 shoes; 3 year-old Saniyah wears 3T-4T and size 9 shoes; 7-year old Nambia (girl) wears 10 ½ clothes and size 3 shoes; 9 year-old Camden (boy) wears 10 ½ clothes and size 3 shoes; their mother wears size 10 pants and size 9 ½ shoes; grandmother wears size large clothing and 8 ½ shoes.  We will collect items during regular business hours (Tuesday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. – Noon).

For more information, please contact Sonji Hubbard at 302.543.5469.
