Delaware Art Museum; Ancestry and Innovation: African American Art from the American Folk Art Museum
Most people think of African American ancestry and innovation art as a picture that African American ancestors did in their spare time as a slave during the 1800s and early 1900s. Nevertheless, many do not know that these forms of art had a story behind it. That’s why the Delaware Art Museum has organized an extraordinary exhibit that will help express to a broader community these African Americans’ story. This exhibit will not only reveal a story, but also reveal how artistic these artists were through their wide variety of vibrant and overpowering colors. Some of these artist include David Butler, Sam Doyle, Bessie Harvey, and Clementine Hunter, who are making their contribution to the kaleidoscope of American cultural and visual experience, which is the heart of the this exhibit. The Ancestry and Innovation: African American Art from the American Folk Art Museum exhibit will be at the Delaware Art Museum from May 9, 2009 – July 12, 2009.
